Yes, jays do want that scrub
A scrub-jay is a bird that prefers sandy scrub, not trees
Hangin’ out by his family’s side with territorial pride
but his song just sounds off-key
Florida scrub jays might not be the most melodious singers, but they are endemic to a very specific habitat: Scrub! Sandy openings and lower vegetation make for ideal Florida scrub-jay habitat, found along ancient sandy ridges that run down the middle of the state, old sand dunes along the coasts, and sandy riverbanks in the interior. Scrub-jays are territorial and live in family groups to help defend their space. As for their singing? Well…. let’s just say they won’t be topping any charts.
