Former First Lady Melania Trump released a powerful statement on Sunday, urging Americans to rise above “hate, vitriol, and simple-minded ideas that ignite violence” in the wake of an assassination attempt on her husband, former President Donald Trump.
In her statement, Melania Trump expressed gratitude to the U.S. Secret Service for their protection and extended her heartfelt condolences to the victims of the rally shooting, which left one spectator dead and two others seriously injured.
“When I witnessed that violent act against my husband, I realized that my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change,” she stated. She condemned the assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, describing him as a “monster” who viewed Donald Trump as an “inhuman political machine.”
Melania Trump emphasized the importance of recognizing her husband’s humanity, saying, “Donald’s passion, laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration are what define him, far beyond politics.” She reiterated her belief in the need for love, compassion, kindness, and empathy in society.
“The winds of change have arrived,” she declared, thanking those who have shown support and reached out across political divides. “Every politician is a person with a loving family,” she reminded the public, calling for unity in the face of division.
