On Thursday, April 6, Corporal Baker spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of North Port. While attempting to catch up, the driver, Christopher Zebley took off leading our deputy

on a short chase! Both the driver and the passenger, Kari Messer got out and fled on foot into the woods! Eventually both surrendered and additional deputies arrived on scene to assist in the incident.
Christopher Zebley was arrested and charged with Fleeing and Eluding, driving with a suspended license, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Resisting without Violence. Kari Messer was arrested and cha
rged with Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Resisting without Violence.
Thankfully, this story has a happier ending for someone! While investigating, Corporal Baker contacted the owner of the vehicle who arrived on scene to get the recovered vehicle. The owner was overwhelmed with joy when she arrived, as she was able to go home with her vehicle that was missing for over a week!
Sheriff Potter is proud of all our law enforcement deputies who not only work hard to get thieves off the streets, but also work to return stolen property back to the rightful owner as quick as possible.
Remember, if YOU plan to break the law, DON’T come to DeSoto County. We will track you down!
