DeSoto County Deputies Arrest Suspect in Arcadia Truck Stop Burglary

On August 22, 2024, DeSoto County deputies responded to a burglary at the Arcadia Truck Stop, where a suspect, Andre Vazquez, allegedly stole an antique slot machine filled with silver buffalo nickels. Security footage captured Vazquez forcing open a locked door, seizing the slot machine, and securing it to an electric bike before fleeing the scene.

Deputies tracked Vazquez to his residence, where he attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot and hiding in a nearby backyard. The suspect even climbed onto a roof in an effort to avoid arrest. However, he was eventually apprehended and taken into custody, though he resisted arrest.

A search of Vazquez’s property led to the discovery of a U-Haul containing the stolen slot machine, along with bolt cutters and a backpack with a loaded handgun. As a convicted felon, Vazquez is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Vazquez is now facing multiple charges and is being held at the DeSoto County Jail. The antique slot machine has been successfully returned to its rightful owners.

“Thanks to our dedicated deputies, another criminal is off the streets. We’re committed to keeping DeSoto County safe, as it’s at the forefront of our mission,” said Sheriff Jim Potter.
